Code of conduct
A friendly day, for everyone who comes.
This applies to everyone at Northern Makers Day: attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers and the team, all day and at the after-party.
Need help on the day?
Find anyone in an orange T-shirt, or go to the help desk by the main doors.
In an emergency, call 999 first.
01
Be kind and be curious
Treat everyone with respect: speakers, volunteers, venue staff and each other.
Ask questions, share what you know and make room for people who are new.
Disagree with ideas, never with people.
02
What isn’t OK
Harassment of any kind, including offensive comments about gender, sexuality, disability, appearance, race, religion or age.
Unwelcome physical contact, following people, or repeatedly approaching someone who’s said no.
Selling from the stage or pitching people who haven’t asked.
03
Photos and filming
Our photographer wears an orange lanyard. If you’d rather not be photographed, pick up a yellow lanyard at the help desk.
Ask before you photograph anyone else, and don’t film whole talks: we’ll send you the recordings.
04
If something happens
Tell anyone in an orange Northern Makers Day T-shirt, go to the help desk, or call the number on the back of your badge.
You can talk to us during or after the day, in person or by email. You don’t need to have proof.
05
What we’ll do
We’ll listen, take it seriously and keep it confidential as far as we can.
We may warn someone, ask them to leave without a refund or contact the venue’s security or the police, and we’ll tell you what we’ve done.
